I don't see how this would help during a disaster, unless you're talking
about a mini-disaster: loss of a single machine.

For that case, not a bad idea if you can afford it.  I would migrate the
data but set the cache parameter on the pool to yes.  That way you have the
best of all worlds: small files in the disk pool and on tape.

There is also a new parameter for cached data that describes how long *SM
should keep cached data in the pool.  That might help as well.
