Kelly,
very elegant solution ( I guess that's why you make the big bucks)!  By doing
this and by placing the file-protect selector (technically known as the 'blue
thingie')  into the LOCK position, it should keep the old tapes from ever being
written to again.

Or create another pool, point the original pool at the new one and lower the
migration thresholds.
