The term "LAN free backup" also means that you can backup data from a node
without sending that data over the LAN to the ADSM server.

The way to do this is to install a fibre-channel based SAN, with connections
to the SAN from the TSM Server, and from the node being backed up. The tape
library must also be hung off the SAN. The TSM Server then controls the tape
library, while the node can send data direct to the tape library without
going over the LAN - but it DOES still go over the SAN.

To do this currently, you need to install TSM server onto the client node
, although I gather this requirement will change later this year.
