How about this instead: Install the new server connected to the old library
and point all the clients at the new server. The next backup will
necessarily be a full backup since the new server's never seen the clients.
Then let the existing client data expire on the old server. Once you have
exceeded your longest retention period, you can delete the filespaces for
original clients. If you have archive data, then use export/import.

IMHO, the export/import process will take a long time. Especially if
collocation was not in use. One exports by client node. So each client may
actually need to mount the same tapes. This means mounting the same tapes
over and over and over.

Something to consider. Something you will definitely consider after your
first three or four export/imports.

PS This won't work for everyone, but if your retention periods are short it
will work just fine.
