There is still amazing resistance out there to using the v3 exclude
options, EXCLUDE.DIR and EXCLUDE.FS .  In particular, EXCLUDE.DIR is
intended to avoid the incidental traversal of subdirectories.
Please, folks, use them and avoid all the anguish.
