It that exclude statement is at the very bottom of your include exclude
list, then it should not be backing up the files.  If your dsm.opt file
looks like

exclude /var/opt/OV/share/databases/openview/ovwdb/current/*.*
include /var/*

then it is going to be backed up.
You should also make sure you don't have a client option set on
the server that is backing that up.

Does anyone see something in the following EXCLUDE statement that would
still allow the directory path, subdirs, and files to be backed up anyway?

exclude /var/opt/OV/share/databases/openview/ovwdb/current/*.*

You can see why we're trying to EXCLUDE the directory and all its
associated
parts: the files under this specific directory can't be used to recover the
machine.
