tsm restore of wnt server strangness with ifnewer
2015-10-04 17:33:44
I need advice about the optimal restore method.
We have a server that we are trying to stage for a field replacement
We set up a new box with a new name and the nt system is in an
Alternate directory. This is to replace a server in a remote location
that is backed up over a phone line that is much slower then our local
network.
So this weekend we did a restore to this new box. Today I tried to do
a restore with the command
dsmc restore -subdir=yes -ifnewer -replace=all \\srcn\d$\* \\destn\d$\
The idea being that we could do a large restore here and then do a short
restore after they received the box in the field. But:
Instead of mounting only the tape(s) written in the last couple of days
this restore started mounting tapes going back months.
Am I tring the impossible task here. Or did I do something else strange.
Does anyone have any good ideas?
Both the client and server are of tsm at the 371 level. Both were
ugrades of adsm 2.1 and the server and client are windows nt 4.0.
