     We too are running ADSM 3.1.2.20 on OS/390, using STK 3490 cartridges in
4410 silos.  We have 325+ clients (HP-UX, AIX, NT, Novell, Windows) and a 25 GB
database.  Our admin and backup schedules look as follows.  As for why your tape
reclamation runs so long - I can't say, unless you are fighting for cpu or tape
drives in the timeframe which you are running.  Reclamation of our tape pools
(about 5) is allowed to run all day, and they usually all complete by the
afternoon.

     00:00     Start backup of clients to disk pool
     02:00     Start tape reclamation
     05:00 Database backup (incremental except Sunday and Saturday full)
     06:50 Start migration disk to tape
     08:00     Copy tape pools to vault tape
     15:30     Stop tape reclamation
     16:50     Stop migration
     17:00     Start backup of clients direct to tape pool
     22:00     Expire inventory  (usually finished by 01:00)

We are currently running ADSM 3.1.2.20 on OS/390 mainframe, using STK 9840
cartridges and automated silos.

The following is a snapshot of our current processing cycle of ADSM over
24hrs

07:30 Stop backup of all nodes
08:00 Start expiration of backup versions
08:00 Delete old Dbase volumes
09:00 Backup colocated pool
09:30 Duplex copy of colocated pool
11:30 Backup non colocated pool
12:00  Start Reclamation of non-colocated pool to 70%
14:00  Start Reclamation of colocated pool to 70%
15:30 Duplex copy of non colocated pool
16:30 Stop reclamation of colocated pool
17:00 Stop reclamation of non colocated pool
18:00 Start migration of  non colocated pool
19:00 Start Data base backup
20:00 Stop migration of non colocated pool
21:00 Start migration of colocated pool
21:59 Stop migration of colocated pool
22:00 Start backup of all nodes

Does anyone do anything similar?
Can anyone tell me if this seems consistent/correct enough?
Reclamation set at 5hrs duration, seems to take forever even when we only
have one volume to reclaim, is this normal? Does anyone else see this with
9840's
Do I have to do expiration daily?, ie is there much of a saving running less
often

Naturally I am trying to get the process as fluent as possible, hopefully
you can share information with me.
