I looked at the 3.1.0.8 level README file, which fixes further problems with
the perpetually problematic automount file systems.  From what I've seen
uninvolved file systems can be affected simply by virtue of automounting
happening in the system.  If anyone has 3.1.0.8 in place, it would be valuable
to hear if that has finally quashed the problems.
