I have a similar 3494/3590 config as yours. 10 3590-B1A in a 3494; 6 for
wide node, 4 for R40.
There is a plan to upgrade all of them to 3590E and share 2 out of the 6
from wide node to R40.

You mentioned ADSM cannot tell the difference between 'offline/busy' &
'offline/broken'; instead of a queue it fails the mount,
then what is the actual functions of '3494SHARED yes' server option and
3590 microcode autoshare feature?
my servers are at 3.1.2.13 (old but stable), 3494SHARED is not document
in dsmserv.opt, is this option available at a higher fix level?
I'm also interested to know will there be any interruption if server B is
reboot while server A ADSM is writing to a 3590. Long time ago, I have
connected a standalone 3590-B11 with a HP machine & a R40 for a little
test. When HP machine is rebooted, ADSM tape process in R40 interrupted.
