I have a couple of questions regarding backing up the database.

I have my database mirrored on multiple disk arrays that are themselves
mirrored and on different floors of our building. However, in the spirit
of ultra paranoia I also backup the database with an administrative
command schedule using 'backup db' to our library once per week and I
backup the entire os (including one copy of the database) on the ADSM
server to external, unaffiliated DLT every day via ufsdump. I had a slew
of DLT tapes that were basically paper weights after the magstar came on
line so I figured I might as well put them to good use. Anyway, my
questions are these:

Is there a way to pipe the output of an administrative command to
system mail? It seems to me that if ADSM gets mangled or you lose the
database then that backup db is going to be worthless unless you know what
volume it's on right? Easy enough to obtain that piece of information
manually but it would be really nice if ADSM could e-mail it to me upon
successful completion of the job. I can't find any reference to such a
feature in the docs.

W/r to this dumping the database to DLT... I guess my question is a
serialization issue. If I do this dump while the ADSM server is running
but I'm certain that it is `quiet`, i.e. no procs, no sessions, am I going
to get a consistent database if I restore it? I realize that the best way
to do it would be to shut the server down, then do the dump but I'd like
to not do that if I don't have to.

Thanks.

John
