Scott,

I would bet that you are backing up large files or using an
agent to backup a relation database.  If you backup many
small files, your *SM DB will be quite large due to the fact
that it maintenance points for each and every file it has
backed up.  1.5TB in small files produces many more records
than 1.5TB of large files/databases.
