Back with Version 2 clients, we had some backup duration problems
that were easily traced to "COMPRESSALWAYS NO". ADSM would
compress a file only to find it expand a bit, reject the compressed
version and (apparently) waste a lot of time, perhaps with
retransmission of data (speculation).
Given the size ratio of our disk to tape pools, I suspect that I use *SM
client compression too much, especially since there often appears to
be a restore penalty for compressed files.
In theory or in practice, does *SM overlap compression and
transmission during backup and/or restore?
