Amy,
We use it all the time to synchonize two servers;
use the following command on your development server (adev)
dsmc rest -virtualnodename=sourcenode -passw=xxx /sourcefilesystem/
/targetfilesystem/ -subdir=yes -replace=all -ifnewer
