We have been testing our disaster recovery procedures and have been unable
to restore our TSM v3.7.1 server.

After successfully re-installing the operating system and the TSM server
software (v3.7.1), we restored our database from a server deviceclass. The
steps we followed were:

1.   Restore most recent backup of VOLHIST.OUT.

2.   Created sufficiently large database volumes and recovery log volumes
to store the restored database. Extended the database and recovery log to
the maximum extent.

3.   Defined the remote server (DEFINE SERVER) and deviceclass (DEFINE
DEVCLASS DEVTYPE=SERVER).

4.   Backed up our device configuration to DEVCNFG.OUT (BACKUP DEVCONFIG).

5.   Halted the server.

6.   Attempted to restore the database from the most recent full backup:

DSMSERV RESTORE DB todate=01/12/2000 totime=02:03:57 source=dbb

The restore went through the motions of mounting the server volume, and
restoring the datbase pages but failed near the end with an application
error in DSMSERV.EXE and a Dr. Watson message.

The database restore is at this stage incomplete and TSM will not start.

We have tried this repeatedly using different database backups and the
results are identical.

Included below is a log of the restore process. Any thoughts would be
gratefully appreciated.
