Re: DRM and NT ADSM SERVER with STK 9710

Hi Paul -
I'ts actually pretty simple.
Here is what we do....
We currently have two policy domains. One for NT ( called INFNT )and one for
Netware ( called INFNW )
We also have two disk pools, two tape pools and two copy pools. One for each
platform. We do
this so that in a true disaster we can run NT restores at the same time we
run NT restores with
any tape contention between the two platforms. ( We will be migrating to 5
different policy domains this
year so that business units can all be restored at the same time)
Anyway, I'll try to keep it simple for now.
Backups go to each disk pool over night. In the morning we backup the two
diskpools to the two copy pools.
Here are the commands:
BACKUP STGP INFNT INFNT_COPYPOOL
BACKUP STGP INFNW INFNW_COPYPOOL
When the backup of the diskpools is complete I run another admin sched to
backup the tape pool, incase any forced migration ran.
BACKUP STGP INFNT_TAPEPOOL INFNT_COPYPOOL
BACKUP STGP INFNW_TAPEPOOL INFNW_COPYPOOL
When that is done I run a database backup.
When the database backup is done I run the following commands:
QUERY DRMEDIA WHERESTATE=MOUNTABLE ( this shows the tapes to go off site )
MOVE DRMEDIA "VOLUME NAME" WHERESTATE=MOUNTABLE TOSTATE=VAULT REMOVE=BULK
I take the tapes out. At this point you can put in new scratch tapes. Now I
run the PREPARE command. I have set the paraemeters so that
the output goes staright to floppy. I then rexx the prepare file to break it
out into it's seperate components.
At this point I ship the tapes and the flooy to the remote vaulting site.
The next day repeat and rinse.
If you want more details let me know.

Subject: DRM and NT ADSM SERVER with STK 9710
I ADSMERs, I am working on a new small ADSM (Tivoli) system install
running on
an NT server connected
to an STK 9710 with 9840 tape drives. Everything is working well,
but I am
having a hard time getting
DRM to automatically create a copy tape for vaulting as the
migrations fill the
primary sequential
tape pool that is on 9840 tape. My documentation is not very
complete and from
what I have I am not
sure I can automate a process to create a second tape copy of the
primary for
ejection and vaulting.
I am not interested in the Recovery Plan File at this time.
Anyone out there tackled the task of creating tape copies for
vaulting in an
automated library?
Thanks,
Paul
