Hi Patrick,

The answer is no, you can not access the data directly from
the storage pool media. An operational ADSM database is
required.

I don't know what you mean by, "The ADSM database was
completely lost", yet you were still able to attempt to run
the salvage utilities.

If the database was completely destroyed (i.e. the volumes
were dismounted and written over or destroyed, and you have
no mirrors), then there is little hope of recovering from
this. However, it MAY be possible for the folks in the
IBM/Tivoli labs to recover data from your media. Even with
this, there is no guarantee of success. It is also a
potentially chargeable service. I do not know the details
of how this works, so you would have to discuss with
IBM/Tivoli service.

Unless you are in a position to start all over from scratch,
I recommend that you contact IBM/Tivoli support for further
direction. Until then, I would not do *anything* else to
what is left of your ADSM server or the system on which it
runs.

Regards,

Andy

Yes, that's the "Don't ask..." part. We don't have any database backups and
we've tried the salvage commands. It dies during the auditdb process.

Can we access the data directly by mounting the platters? And how is this
done?

Thanks again,
