The volume history file exists to aid disaster recovery. It is there
to tell the ADSM server (and admin) which volumes have database backup
sets, which order, when written and so on. Also holds information
about the devices, device classes, libraries...

The definitive version of the information is held in the ADSM database
and it is rewritten each time the contents changes.

Editing the file is err pointless. A working ADSM server will totally
ignore you. A recovering ADSM server will believe the volume history
file, but revert after the restore. [*]

Putting the clock forward and running the delete volumehistory is
best. Or just removing the tapes from the library until they expire
naturally.

[*] Been there... tried changing a device class by editing on a test
server. It ignored my changes after the restore.
