Never a dull moment here!

Got an issue that I would like some thoughts on.

We have 26,000 win95 clients distributed across 10 ADSM servers.

The current naming convention for the user devices is as follows:

Lastname_firstinitial-officenumber

So my computers identification is:
Robinso_C-0055

Our network folks have informed us that DNS doesn't like the underscore and
they won't be able
to set DNS to ignore the _ for much longer and they need to have
it replaced with a dash. Ok. The problem is that when they do this I will
end up with all new full
backups and my ADSM server will have 26,000 old filespaces. ( Actually it's
more like 42,000 since
the hard drives have two partitions )

This would kill us to say the least! Now, if I could do a mass
rename/replace of all _ with - then we could
coordinate the migration. Remember, these will probably be renamed at the
device through and automated script
and manually renaming is out of the question.

Final note.... this has to be done by mid 2000.

What fun!

Any thoughts.... besides punt!
