Instead of doing a "MOVE DATA" what I did was to change the "NEXT STG POOL"
on the old storage pool to the new storage pool name. Then I gradually lower
the "HIGH MIG PCT" and "LOW HIGH PCT" to migrate the data from the old
storage pool to the new storage pool. That way you don't have to keep
issuing the "MOVE DATA" command. Worked great for me.

Create the new device class (yes, line wrapping is the scourge,
along with
long descriptive names!). Then you will need to create new storage
pools
using this class. Then move the data from the old pool to the new
pools,
then delete the volumes from the old pools (after they are empty of
course
which will happen without you doing anything). Yes, this is a pain
in the
        arse!

        Hi all...

Is it possible to rename user-defined (ie not built-in) device
classes?
If so, what is the procedure?

I have a device class defined for my 3494 library... and.. believe
it or
not... I was asked by someone higher than I if I could rename it so
that
reports wouldn't line wrap on it... I'm fearing renaming it would
break
lots of stuff....Far more trouble than it would be worth in my mind,
to
keep things like q stgp from line-wrapping. Thoughts?

        TIA!

        -
        Best regards,
        Brian
