I have successfully moved an AIX server by ftp'ing the database and log
files. However, be aware that this is not a guaranteed method, especially if
your network is busy/unreliable, as the files can be corrupted during the
transfer.

Iam not sure about directly moving the log and db files like that.

Here is the procedure we have just went through.

1. Install ADSM on the new machine with log and db large enough to
accomodate the existing log and db.
2. Backup the existing db onto tape 'backup db devclass=<yourdevclass>
type=full'
3. If you have a tape library, checkout ALL volumes from the existing server
(may or may not be needed)
4. Copy your volhistory, dsmserv.opt, and devconf files to new server.
5. On the new server use 'dsmserv restoredb' (cant remember exact syntax,
check manual) to reload the database onto new server.
6. Checkin all volumes.

The above listed steps are really high level and are missing alot of
detail -- you'll have to fill in your own details as your setup may be
different.

Hope this helps.

Ernie.
