We also see this a great deal when clients have been set up by the Desktop
folks, but no one has ever bothered to show them how to use the GUI for
changing their passwords, or worse, they use it incorrectly. Since they've
never really communicated with the server as a node, the change in the
password really gets things fouled up. And then the protocol errors start
coming up. Have the client in question get to the command-line interface,
and enter some innocuous command like Q FI <enter>. They should be queried
for their password at that point. And chances are they either don't know it,
or have changed it and that has never synchronized with the ADSM server. You
may have to re-establish their password, and let them go through the
command-line interface scenario again before they finally make contact with
the ADSM server with a proper password. The protocol errors should then go
away.

Hope this helps!
