Robert,

It depends on what type of volumes you are checking in.  If they are expired
database backups, then checking them in as scratch is no problem.  If they are
empty storage pool volumes with the access status of "offsite" then you need to
change the status to "readwrite", the volumes will automatically be deleted, and
then you can check them in as scratch tapes.  If they are storage pool volumes
that are not empty, then you need to check them in as private tapes.
