Whenever you change the management class for a file it gets rebound.  What
you are trying to do won't work.  If you need to keep a file for varying
periods of time, it is real hard with ADSM.  What you should contemplate
doing is an archive of that file at 1 month, 1 year, etc., rather than
backing it up.  Set you backup retention to 30 days and define an archive
copy group to keep the file as long as you need it.  Then define a schedule
to archive that file montly, yearly, whatever.
