What are you really trying to do?  Sounds like you're trying to make ADSM
work like other products.  This is usually not a good idea.  Back up and
decide what your overall restoration objectives are, not in terms of weekly
fulls and daily incrementals, but in business terms.  For instance, perhaps
you have the requirement to be able to restore files up to thirty days old.
In that case, define a backup copy group with verexists, verdeleted, retain
extra and retain only all set to 30 (optionally, verexists and verdeleted
can be set to 9999).

The notion of keeping an incremental backup for some period of time and a
full for some other does not exist within ADSM/Tivole Storage Manager.  Your
analysis of management classes is correct and points out the flaw in that
approach.
