Ruud,

Backup of files vs. archive of files is dependent upon which schedule you
execute; a backup schedule or an archive schedule (once you've set up your
policy domains, backup and archive copygroups, of course).  ONLY the backup will
look at the include and exclude list in the dsm.opt file.  You MUST enter the
files you wish to archive as 'Objects' in a scheduled archive.  And yes - if
your archive group is set up to retain files for 30 days, on the 31st day the
file will be marked for deletion.

to backup issue the command backup,
to archive issue archive...

Which pool the files will copied into is fixed by the policies (see domains,
policy set, backup groups etc.)

The dsm.opt is used by both backup and archive,
