Ok -
We got it to work and the solution was pretty simple. Sometimes it's hard to
see
the forest through the trees.

Problem 1:
We were using the default ADMIN account but out NDS does not have
"ADMIN" but rather it is renamed to another name so
the account gets blown away at the beginning of the restore.
Solution 1:
Re-create the account used to backup the NDS including all context
levels

Problem 2:
We created the account but gave it security equal to the
Organization.
Solution 2:
Make the account a trustee of ROOT with supervisor rights.

The remaining question is that we have a large number of objects which
comeback with unsuccessful restore in the
log but there appears to be object with ? marks as placeholders. i believe
that this is due to the fact that many
objects have no physical presence on the network so NDS has not sync'd back
up.

We are restoring 45,000 objects
5000 were completed
40000 failed but have what looks like a place holder.

Does this seem right?

Thanks -
CR

We backup NDS nightly and I have done successfull restores. The
problem that
you are having is that the NDS user ID that has been assigned to the
client
that you are doing the restore from does not have the proper NDS
rights
assigned. Check the users effective rights to make sure that it has
supervisor object and property trustee rights. You should then be
able to
        do your restore.

If anyone out there has successfully backed up and restored Netware
NDS I
would appreciate it if you shared
what it took to get a restore.

        We get the following error:

ANS1879E Netware NDS Error on restore processing:
        Object .o=organization.ou=organizational_unit.cn=context_name
TSA Error FFFDFE83 - 603 User has no rights to the named object.
        Unsuccessful

        Our client code is 3.1.0.6 (4.11 SP5b )
        Our server is at 3.1.2.20 ( NT 4.0 sp4 )

        Anyone, anyone?

        Thanks -
        CR
