I had a look at the mksysb/savevg script about a year ago (it's the same
piece of code) and stripped out all the bits for backing up files. I got it
down to about 20 lines. I could then run this script against a non-rootvg
volume group and a 50k "restore" file was created. In a disaster situation
I would run the AIX command "restvg" using this file as input and the volume
group would be recreated, including all logical volumes and filesystems. I
was then in a position to do the ADSM restore.

Unfortunately I have changed jobs, but I'll see if I can get hold of a copy
of the script today. It proved very useful and saved us having to document
our volume groups.

Richard.
