Erin,

No, the mt, lb, and op ADSM device drivers configure and create device
special files during the add_drv process. And no a reboot is not normally
required.

Subject: Newbee with 'add_drv' 'drvconfig' and 'tapes'

I'm starting to setup ADSM 3.1.2.30 on a Solaris 2.6 host attached to a
Qualstar TLS412360 auto tape library. I'm also a bit new to unix so am not
sure about how tape device files are created for ADSM. Hopefully
someone can please advice...

The ADSM Administrator's Guide (Chapter 4) say to issue

    /usr/sbin/add_drv -m '* 0666 bin bin' /usr/kernel/drv/mt

but mentions nothing about issuing 'drvconfig' and 'tapes'. I'm assuming
these two commands are needed and are to be executed after the 'add_drv'
commandline above. Also, is a reboot needed at any point here?

Thanks in advance,

-Erin Peszko
