We have been running 3590-E's for about 3 weeks. Still in the midst of
migrating the data from a 3575 that has 3570-B1A's. The 3590's haven't
missed a beat.......

                     Thanks for the response.
I have looked and compared the IBM 3494 using 3590E
drives against
StorageTek 9740 using 9840 drives. And even though IBM
has a faster
drive (3590E) it looks technically (on paper) that
StorageTek robotics
will offset the IBM drive speed. We would need two
frames for IBM
compared to single StorageTek frame. IBM has an average
access time
per frame around 65 seconds vs. StorageTek 18 second
access time.
Which means we would waste a lot of time getting tapes
on the IBM
                     library.

Another concern I have is nobody can get IBM's 3590E
drives until
August (maybe) and what kind of bugs are they going to
have.

Master, I agree. Especially with the release of the
high capacity E
                       series
                       tape drives out now.

Hi. Just one suggestion : I've seen so many people
complaining about
                       their
StorageTek libraries on this list that I would
suggest you to see
                       for
another options. Additional Magstar drives, for
instance ...

                       good luck !
