okay, so assuming daily incrementals:
6/29 file Dave.Tue gets created - It is stored for 30 versions. 6/30 file
Dave.Tue is deleted. It now gets kept for 30 days based on Retain Only
Version 30. 7/6 file Dave.Tue is created again. now the file from 6/29 is
inactive, but again is due to be kept for 30 versions?

I hope I have this clear now. Thanks again.

previous conversation: >The version created 6/29 will remain on the host
until >7/30/99, yet if I create another file with the SAME name, on >7/6/99,
wouldn't that cause the first one to follow the >"versions data exists" rule
of 30 versions? ***** Versions Data Exists 30 Versions Data Deleted 1 Retain
Extra Versions 30 Retain Only Version 30

***** Based on your specs in the Backup Copy Group above:

1. You will keep only 1 bkup version if your file is deleted from your
server (or desktop);
2. You will retain 30 bkup versions if your file exists on your server (or
desktop);
3. The new file created on 7/6/99 will bring you back to 30 bkup versions
if:
   -- you modify it, and when you do:
   -- the version on 6/29 will become the second version (inactive) behind
the active version just modified. All happens when the next incremental
backup runs.
