ADSM server 3.1.2.20 on MVS - Client versions 2 and 3
During client restore operations i have experienced ...
... that tape locks are preserved after the restore command within dsmc
has completed. The lock is not released until the actual session is
terminated(dsmc is shutdown). Running restores in parallel and those
restores need the same tape will put the the 2nd, 3rd etc. restore sessions
into an everlasting wait - or until the 1st session manually is terminated
or commtimedout - eventhough its restore command has long completed.
... that locks on all tapes that a migration process (maybe also backup stg
processes?) uses are preserved until the process terminates and not until
the process has finished its work with a given tape.
I believe that some of the mediawait that parallel restore processing may
experience could be eliminated if the server could use a copy stgpool tape
as input in those situations. (the parallel restores, of course, were not
restoring the same files)
