     Ginny,
     I have the wait=yes on the command because this is part of a macro.
     The macro is executing some other commands that depend on this command
     completing. You don't need the wait if all you do is execute this
     command.

To all who answered my plea for help - thanks!! Most of you had the same
response, that being to first move the tapes from the vautretrieve state to
courierretrieve state, then move from courierretrieve to onsiteretrieve the
following day when the tapes physically arrive onsite. I had wondered if
that might not help me out with this problem, although I kept going back to
the manual which indicated that you should be able to skip the courier
location (I guess you can if you are performing the entire process in one
day!).

To Jim and his response below - it looks like you are doing exactly what I
had planned, however I was missing the WAIT=YES part. This really works
for you? I guess it's six of one and half-dozen of the other; guess I
could do it this way - or move them first to courierretrieve on Monday -
then perform the following commands when the tapes return from a state of
courier to onsite without the WAIT=YES and achieve the same results?

 Ginny,
     This is the command we run to move our tapes from vaultretrieve to
     onsitretrieve. This command creates a file that has the checkin
     commands required when the tapes are returned.
     MOVE DRMEDIA * WHERESTATE=VAULTRETRIEVE TOSTATE=ONSITER -
     CMD="CHECKIN LIBVOL LIB_3590 &VOL STATUS=SCRATCH DEVT=3590" -
     CMDFILENAME="/usr/lpp/adsmserv/bin/checkin.mac" WAIT=YES
     When the tapes are returned and inserted in the vault we run the
following
     DSMADMC / -ID=ADMIN -PASSWORD=xxxx MACRO
/usr/lpp/adsmserv/bin/checkin.mac
