Hi,

I want to set up ADSM clients on an AIX HACMP cluster and want to have a
working automatic backup even after a HACMP takeover. I have instructions
on how to set up the ADSM passwords for that purpose (See below, I dont
know any more where I found it). Due to my limited knowledge of ADSM
and/or my limited knowledge of the english language I don't understand this.
Do I need two ADSM servers for that ?  "swing the ADSM client over" ??
Could some kind soul please give me some instructions that even I can
understand?


The ADSM Unix client documentation insists that the client scheduler must be
startet from /etc/inittab. Is this really true? This gives problems with HACMP.
Although HACMP has its own run-level "a" this does not solve the problem.
The client scheduler should be started only after the filesystems to be backed
up are mounted and should be stopped before they are unmounted.
Therefore the right place for the client scheduler would be a HACMP application
server. Is this possible ?

/The password is munged with the uname so the password file is not portable.
/Leave the password file in /etc/security/adsm and be sure to use different
/servername stanza names on either system so the file names don't clash.  Set
/the password file on one system then swing the ADSM client over and set it on
/the other...from then on you should be set.  You probably don't even have to
/swing it over if you are leaving the ADSM executables on local disk; just copy
/over the dsm.sys file to the other system (save off its dsm.sys) access the
/server (dsmc -se=sysAstanza q filesp) at which point it will prompt you for the
/password and set the password file /etc/security/adsm/SYSASTANZA on system B.
/Replace system B's dsm.sys and you should be set.
