Is it possible to restore data to an Irix 6.5.3 machine which was
originally backed up from a Solaris 2.5 machine? Both are running
current client code. Sever is AIX.

More generally, is there a table of "compatible" cross-platform
restore types available anywhere?

It should be possible. I've done some cross platform things with
Digital Unix and SCO Unix. The Unix data format of the clients is the
same. To simplify the access I use the nodename option.
Differences are in the ACL-attributes. You can not restore SUN-ACL's ona
SGI!
Because I have no M$-products, I can not say, whether this works. But
you should expect some trouble when restoring to windows (business at
usual).
