Hello ADSMers,

A fixtest for the silent/custom install problems on the Windows
client is now available for the Intel platform. It is located
on our FTP site index.storsys.ibm.com. The fixtest name is
IC22732Q2.

Below is the contents of the README.FTP file for this fixtest.
I apologize in advance if the REAME.FTP info below appears to be
misaligned, or wrapped in such a way as to make it difficult to
read; that would be the work of my e-mail program, and is beyond
my control. But if you go out to the FTP site and go into the
/adsm/fixtest/v3r1/win32/intel directory, you will find the file
there. It is called IC22732Q2.README.FTP and is formatted
correctly. This file will tell you which files to download and
how to start the installation.

Please note that instead of one single 25+ MB file, I have
broken it up into multiple 4 MB files. This should help those
users with slow and/or unreliable internet connections. I have
also included a .BAT file for creating the installation image
from all of the files. Please be sure to download the .EXE and
.BAT files in BINARY format.

Please note that this is a packaging fix only. The ADSM code
itself is the same as that distributed in fixtest IC22732Q.

Best regards,

Andy

ABOUT THIS PACKAGE

Due to the large size of this package, it has been fragmented into seven
smaller files of around 4 MB. This should make downloads easier for those
users with slower or less reliable internet connections.

The complete package consists of the following files which must all be
downloaded in BINARY format to the same directory:

   - IC22732Q2.BAT
   - IC22732Q2.DISK1.EXE
   - IC22732Q2.DISK2.EXE
   - IC22732Q2.DISK3.EXE
   - IC22732Q2.DISK4.EXE
   - IC22732Q2.DISK5.EXE
   - IC22732Q2.DISK6.EXE
   - IC22732Q2.DISK7.EXE

All of these files are required in order to successfully install this
package.

In addition, the following information files are provided:

   - IC22732Q2.README.1ST - The same file as the READ1ST.TXT file that is
installed with the client. It is a good idea
to review this file before installing this
fixtest code, especially if you are upgrading
from version 3.1.0.5 or below of the ADSM
client.

   - IC22732Q2.README.FTP - The file you are reading right now (this file).

INSTALLATION

1) Before installing this package, you must have downloaded all of the
1) Before installing this package, you must have downloaded all of the
   required files (as mentioned above).

2) Run IC22732Q2.BAT to create the installation image. Example:

   IC22732Q2 E:\ADSMTEMP

This will create the ADSMCLI directory structure in the subdirectory
specified on the command line. In this example, ADSMCLI will be
   located under the E:\ADSMTEMP directory.

3) Go to the directory you specified when you ran IC22732Q2.BAT, then "cd"
into ADSMCLI\WIN32\INTEL\DISK1. From there, run SETUP.EXE to start the
   client installation.

*** NOTE *** The installation program ends with a warning to reboot the
system. Please be sure that you do reboot the system.

OTHER NOTES
-----------
A default SETUP.ISS file is provided in the ADSMCLI\WIN32\INTEL\DISK1
A default SETUP.ISS file is provided in the ADSMCLI\WIN32\INTEL\DISK1
subdirectory. This file can be used "as is" to perform a default silent
install. The default install is the same as if you performed the install
interactively and chose all of the default settings:

     - Install ADSM into C:\Program Files\IBM\ADSM
     - Perform a "Typical" install
     - Put the administrative client in a different directory from the
       backup-archive client.
     - Create the icons in the IBM ADSM program folder
     - Reboot the system when the installation completes.

To perform a silent install, specify the "-s" option when you run
  SETUP.EXE:

     setup -s

To create your own SETUP.ISS response file, run SETUP.EXE with the "-r"
  option:

     setup -r

Respond to the prompts so that ADSM is installed the way you like it.
After
the install completes, there will be a SETUP.ISS file in the Windows
folder
(\WINDOWS on Windows 95 and 98, \WINNT on Windows NT).

To use the response file, copy it into the same directory as the
SETUP.EXE
(usually in the ADSMCLI\WIN32\INTEL\DISK1 directory). Then run SETUP with
the "-s" option, as mentioned above.

Please note that a response file must be used on a machine that is
configured similarly to the machine on which the response file was
created. For example, suppose you create a response file and target
the installation to the G: drive. In order to use this response file
on another machine, that machine must also have a G: drive.

You can verify the success of the installation by checking the SETUP.LOG
file that is created in the same directory as SETUP.EXE. Look for the
"ResponseResult" section at the bottom SETUP.LOG. It will include a
"ResultCode" setting that will be "0" if the install is successful.
  Example:

     ...
     [ResponseResult]
     ResultCode=0
