File size and performance

We are getting ready to move the database, log, and disk storage pools
for our MVS ADSM server from real 3390-2s to IBM Ramac Virtual Arrays
(RVA) dasd which will look like 3390-3s to MVS. Are there any
performance considerations for having these files as big as possible
versus having the same amount of space spread over several files?
Do any of the manuals discuss this with any clarity?
