You need to give the client the auditing and security permissions if you
want to back up the files with their ACL data. There is no circumvention to
this.

"The only dumb question is the one that goes unasked."
How can I avoid the message: ANS5173E An error occured accessing the NTFS
security? I want to backup files to which the system has no auditing and
security permissions. However the file can be created, deleted and modified
on the network drive. In the manual there is the following error
description:
ANS5173E An error occurred accessing NTFS security information.
Explanation: An error occurred while attempting to access NTFS security
information.
System Action: Object will not be processed.
User Response: See your system administrator or bypass by using
SkipNTSecurity option.
However this option (SkipNTSecurity) does not give the required result. Can
anyone tell me how I can instruct ADSM just to take such files byte by byte
and make a backup?
Thanks for any help

Did anyone ever find an answer to this problem? We are having the same
problem. I have searched the adsm archives and found no answer. Any help
would be greatly appreciated.

I want to backup data on a network drive. This drive seems to have some
access restrictions, however I have full access to all the files
(create, delete, modify). I tried to make backups of these files and
used the options:
SKIPNTPermissions YES
SKIPNTSecuritycrc YES
Then in the backup client I see:
Access denied.
And in the dsmerror.log:
11.12.1998 08:17:31 AltStreamSize(): CreateFile: Win32 RC=5
11.12.1998 08:17:31 AltStreamSize(): CreateFile: Win32 RC=5

'\\s01aaabv\t096058$\1597_225.zip': access to the object is denied
There is a difference, because the following options:
SKIPNTPermissions No
SKIPNTSecuritycrc No
Give this result in the backup client:
ANS5173E An error occured accessing the NTFS security
And in dsmerror.log:

What can I do to backup such files? Permissions says "you only have
permission to view the current security information on 1597_225.ZIP".
Auditing is not available. Owner is "XBBSNTS (XBBSNT TrxServerService)".
Thank you for any information,
