In my company we have about 1,000 Windows workstation clients and about 20 NT
server clients. We have three ADSM servers (VM mainframe). I'm the primary
"administrator" and it is pretty much a full time job. I do the product
selling/contract negotiating throughout our company (about 20,000) local
employees, the client registering, reporting on events, the management class
creation and update, schedule creation and update, server monitoring,
documentation for our interenet and for classes we give on how to use ADSM,
programming of specialized reports and batch jobs that clean up old files,
etc. We do expect the workstation and file server administrators to take
primary responsibility for the workstations, though. We instruct on how to
install and configure the ADSM client and supply access to documentation and
advice and suggestions, but they are responsible for making sure all their
workstations are set up.

Additionally, it is the responsibility of our VM tape and DASD management
people to insure that the ADSM servers have enough space, get backed up
regularly and have offsite disaster recovery capabilities.

Subject: How many ADSM Adminstrators do you have?

Hello,
I am trying to put together some numbers to determine how many ADSM
administrators we should have. Would you please respond with the following:
1) How many administrators do you have?
2) How many ADSM clients are you running?
3) How many ADSM servers are you running?
4) How much data do you back up nightly?
5) Are you stretched for time (optional)?

Do you have a formula that determines how many administrators there should
be for each node or server or size? I just want to make sure we have enough
people to administer our nodes.

Thank you all,

Dan Vanden Heuvel
