I had the same problem with 3.1.2.0, but from versions 3.1.2.13  &  3.1.2.16 , I
have been running multiples without a problem, one day I had 21 of them at the
same time without any problem (3.1.2.16).

Richard, I almost always run multiple whenever a client goes away.  Have you
also, and I would guess, just experienced your first problem as a result??
(so, I would have to reconsider doing the multiples)?
