Sorry, yes, this is DFS using dsmcdfs and:

* DFS Options
   DFSInclexcl          /etc/adsm.dfs.exclude
   DFSBackupmntpnt      No

...so, your saying I need four dots for the directory place holders, as
in:

exclude.dir /.../dce.buffalo.edu/fs/user/[a-z]/[a-z]/..../.netscape/cache

?
