Yes, we have tested a disaster recovery like you describe. We have a
3494 library with 3590 drives and a lone 3590 drive attached to our ADSM
recovery server (rs6000 w/ AIX 4.2.1). We have the drive set up as a
stand-alone manual device and as we restore the database and then restore
files to a client, we have to watch the display on the front of the drive
(or the mount requests on the server) to load the tapes in. A very labor
intensive process, but doable.
