I don't think so. As far as I know, the V3 can read backup's of V2. So you 
don't have to make a complete Backup of the client.

 I know that once you've done a backup with V3 that you can't restore using
V2.  But, when upgrading client software from v2->V3, will that cause a
backup of the whole client as a result?
