Wayne,

Can you tell us more about the business requirement that you're fulfilling
with this scheme? Is your offsite requirement shorter than the onsite
requirement? Do you have to do this with all the data from your site or a
subset of the data?

If you need to refrain from moving the data over the network twice, you can
perform an "export node" to extract the data that you want separate onto
sequential media. You can then manage that media externally from ADSM, and
re-import it when required. That gives you a point-in-time snapshot of the
files and give you control by media retention instead of file retention. I
can't tell from your description if that's what you need, and the export
operation is time consuming.

It's always important to have a complete backup in a copy pool of every file
that you're going to keep in the primary storage pool - if you give that up,
you can't depend on your backups.
