Folks,

Apologies if this is a basic quetion - I'me new to ADSM and newer to
ADSM-L:

I need to be able to determine which tapes I am going to need to restore a
particular directory. How do I do it ?

'QUERY CONTENT' would seem to be the tool to use, but it does not show
whether the file on the tape is an active or inactive copy. Similarly the
CONTENTS table does not have an Active/Inactive flag, and I can't see how
to join it to a table that does.

The information must be in the database for it to be able to do the
restore. Ideally I'd like a query that gives me a list of recovery tapes
for any directory, or filesystem on a paticular date.

I am using adsm server 3.1.1.5 and client 3.1.0.3 on aix 4.2.0.0.

If you are interested, this problem came to light at a Disaster Recovery
test. We are taking incremental backup nightly. On trying to restore the
Oracle_Home directories we found that many tapes were needed. This was
because because Oracle creates several small, largely useless '.aud' files
on a daily basis. The DR was only about 10% successfull because of this
problem (I used the -pick option as a workaround, but this was also
slow-ish).

We are going to switch to selective backups of Oracle_home and
increase/set up reclamation on our offsite tape pool to try to ameliorate
the problem. However, I want to report on how many tapes we need to DR key
filesystems on a daily basis in the future !
