We have a semi-automated procedure for disaster recvoery of NT servers. The
procedure goes like this: Install new hardware, fdisk and format a C:
drive, connect with a DOS NT client that is run from a DOS bootable floppy
to a server or use a CD that contains the \i386 directory from an NT install
CD and added files for an automated install of NT and ADSM client (NT docs
have info on creating automated installs of NT and any other programs you
want to be installed also). These get installed to temp directories
(because you don't want the restore process to try to restore over any open
files). When the install of NT and ADSM client are done, you have an NT
system that can prepare the rest of the disk partitions, get on the network,
and use ADSM client to get back C:, D:, etc. (including the registry). When
the restore is completed and verified, you can then delete the temp NT and
ADSM directories. It works well and is very hands-off.
