This parameter never gets incremented nor decremented unless someone does
it manually. ADSM will keep assigning scratch tapes to the storage pool
until this parameter is reached.
When do you know to boost the current value? "q stg f=d" will give you what
the maxscratch parameter is set to. To get the number of of tapes actually
being used, issue the command "q vol stg=poolname" and count up the number
of volumes. (I personally run a script every day to check these out.) When
the second number starts approaching the first, you need to either reclaim
some tapes or add new scratch ones.

Subject: Maximum Scratch Volumes Allowed
I have a question about the "maximum scratch volumes allowed"
parameter. I understand that this parameter is always incremented,
never decremented when a tape is returned to the scratch pool.
How do you know when to increase the max scratch volumes
parameter ?
Thanks, Jim
