Sounds like your coworkers want a revision control system, not a
backup system. Even 60 versions of a file that changes every day
would take you back twelve weeks (assuming your coworkers *do*
take the weekends off). I can't imagine even remembering _what_ I
was working on three months ago, let alone know that a particular
version of a file I modified that day was the one I needed,
rather than the 59 intervening versions. This is why RCS, CVS,
SCCS, etc. have been developed.

And yes, you are correct in your understanding about the growth
of your database. Your database will become truly immense if you
have a suitably large client base--I should think that 50-100
would be enough to get you a +100GB ADSM database.
