Enclosed are our procedures (we have an ADSM/NT Server and STK9710 tape library).  As always, this works for us (your mileage may vary...) and we do not currently use DRM (which we are planning to implement in the future).  These procedures have served us well, they were created prior to the introduction of DRM.

DRP Process (Admin Schedules create Copy Storage Pool DR_PWM and database backup daily)

Report information (device config, volhist, server option files and query system command output)
for the ADSM/NT Server is created using WINAT.
Command executes at 6am daily, output placed in ADSMDRP directory.
Create Diskette copy of ADSMDRP directory
Retrieve Diskette from ADSM DRP Diskette repository
Update label with current date, place in ADSM Server drive
        Drag and Drop C:\ADSMDRP directory+contents to A:\
Move DRP Tape Volumes and Diskette to Vault
Using the ADSM Administrative Client GUI...
Click on + for Storage Pools
Double click on Storage Pool Volumes
Click on Storage Pool bar (sort by Storage Pool Name)

Review DR_PWM volumes (record volume with Access Mode of READ/WRITE)

                Or

Using the ADSM Administrative Client Command Line...
        MACRO QDRR1
(Which will list any DR_PWM volumes that have an ACCESS MODE of READ/WRITE, or

                READ/ONLY)
Then issue the following command series for any tapes listed above.
MACRO UPDRR1  000nnn
(where 000nnn is the volume to be moved offsite)
        (Which performs the following command)
        UPDate Volume 000nnn ACCess= OFfsite LOcation="Records Center"
        Then perform:
MACRO NOW0 000nnn
        (Which performs the following command)
        CHECKOut LIBVolume STK_9710_00 000nnn
At STK 9710...Press Execute to unlock CAP
                         Remove Tape 000nnn
Query REQuest
(To find out which replies are outstanding.)
Reply 0nn
(where 0nn is taken from Activity Log/outstanding reply message)

Using the ADSM Administrative Client GUI...
Click on + for Storage Pools (will display Storage Pool Volumes entry)

Double click on Storage Pool Volumes
(verify that Tape 000nnn has an Access Mode of OFFSITE)
Using the ADSM Administrative Client Command Line...
             Query LIBHist T=DBBackup
Determine which volumes are new DBBackup (data base backups) volumes.
MACRO UPDBBR1  000nnn
(where 000nnn is the volume to be moved offsite)

        (Which performs the following command)
        UPDate VOLHistory 000nnn DEVclass=dlt7000c LOcation="Records Center"
        Then perform:
MACRO NOW0 000nnn
        (Which performs the following command)
        CHECKOut LIBVolume STK_9710_00 000nnn
(where 000nnn is the volume to be moved offsite)
At STK 9710...Press Execute to unlock CAP
                         Remove Tape 000nnn
        Query REQuest
(To find out which replies are outstanding.)
Reply 0nn
(where 0nn is taken from Activity Log/outstanding reply message, the zero is not required)

Using the ADSM Administrative Client Command Line...
MACRO QDBB
                (Which performs the following command)
Query VOLHistory TYPE=DBB
Determine which Backupfull volume is to be returned, note the date of the most
recent tape that will be coming back, you will need this date for the next step.
     (mm/dd/ccyy)
DELete VOLHist Type=DBBackup TODate=mm/dd/ccyy
(Where mm/dd/ccyy is 1 day greater than the date recorded above. Deleting the volume
history of the Database Backups makes them eligible to become scratch tapes when
they are put back into the ATL.)
Request oldest tape(s) to be returned (2 weeks are kept offsite).

Gather OFFSITE tapes and place in transport box
Send transport box to Records Center

Return Reclaimed DRP Tape Volumes to 9710 Library

Retrieve transport box from Records Center/Messenger Services
Verify Tapes that need to be returned to the 9710 library

Using the ADSM Administrative Client Command Line...
                MACRO BRINGIN0 000nnn

              (Which performs the following command)
        CHECKIn LIBVolume STK_9710_00 000nnn STAT=SCRatch
(where 000nnn is the volume returned from offsite)

At STK 9710...Press Execute to unlock CAP
Insert Tape 000nnn (in top slot)
        Query REQuest
Reply 0nn
(where 0nn is taken from Activity Log/outstanding reply message, the zero is not required)

    Hello Listers!

I am in the process of setting up ADSM for my company's computer systems.  I
am wondering how other companies handle off-site storage of their tapes when
they use ADSM.  Currently in our non-ADSM world, we send a set of tapes
off-site each week, however, we would like to change this to be a daily
occurrence at some point.  If anyone would care to share their plans with
me, I would certainly appreciate it.  We do not have the time/resources to
make two backup copies of our data as our consultant suggested that we do.
