Someone from another ADSM site recently asked me about the feasibility of
using an AS-400 as a disaster recovery platform for an MVS ADSM server. They
envision installing ADSM on the AS-400, creating an ADSM database, restoring
the database contents from a tape written by ADSM running under MVS, and
restoring client files from storage pool tapes created by ADSM running under
MVS. I am assured that the AS-400 has a tape drive that can read the type of
media used by the MVS server. Given that, would the recovery scenario outlined
above work? Could an analogous scenario be carried out with other combinations
of operating system platforms? To what extent would DRM be useful in this type
of scenario? I have looked over a sample recovery plan file created by an MVS
server. I don't think the JCL portion would be very useful in other
environments, but much of the rest looks as if it would be useful if it could
be read successfully.
